Jamie Hewlett – Gorillaz – 2D ‘Born to Die’ Test Print (2004) – Purple / Lilac

An ultra-rare Gorillaz test silkscreen print by Jamie Hewlett, produced at Pictures on Walls, London, in 2004.

Jamie worked with Bansky and other artists on the now-defunct Pictures on Walls project to publish a handful of pre-Gorillaz and early Phase One Gorillaz pieces.

Pictures on Walls published a version of the 2D silkscreen before the launch of Demon Days in May 2005, along with other pieces, such as Noodle Gob, Russel – Yellow River, Murdoc and the popular pentaptych stained glass pieces.

Each test print is unique, hand-pulled on classic off-white recycled woven paper, the same paper used for Banksy prints.

The illustration was later used for the Demon Days rear album cover artwork, slightly adapting 2D’s t-shirt slogan to read ‘Born to Lie’.

Pictures On Wall never published this colourway, a rare opportunity to add a unique piece to your collection, available only to friends and family of Pictures of Walls in 2004.
